El Jefe Modern Mex is open at Wallbrook in Rolesville

A Mexican restaurant and bar is now open at Wallbrook, the Publix-anchored shopping center on South Main Street in Rolesville. The Town of Rolesville’s downtown business page lists El Jefe Modern Mex among the businesses “now open at Wallbrook,” and the restaurant’s website posts regular hours seven days a week at 831 S. Main St.

Neither the town’s page nor the restaurant’s website gives an opening date. The restaurant takes pickup and delivery orders through its own online ordering page, which lists the full menu with prices.

Jalisco recipes and made-to-order margaritas

El Jefe calls itself a modern Mexican kitchen and bar, according to the restaurant’s website. The site says the name is Spanish for “the boss,” and that the food is made from the owner’s mother’s recipes from Jalisco, Mexico. The website does not name the owner.

Margaritas are made to order with freshly squeezed fruit, and the bar carries a large selection of tequilas, according to the website.

Menu and prices

The menu is split into appetizers, tacos, burritos, enchiladas and especialidades. Tacos come three to an order with rice and beans, according to the restaurant’s menu. Prices on the restaurant’s online ordering page include:

• Cheese dip is $8, chorizo dip is $11 and fried plantains are $10.
• Tuna tostadas and fried calamari are $19 each, and ceviche Nayarit is $24.
• Gringo tacos are $16, carnitas and street pollo tacos are $17, and rib-eye and gobernador tacos are $23.
• Mahi mahi tacos are $21.
• The El Jefe Burrito is $23, and the carne asada burrito is $25.
• All four enchilada plates, including enchiladas suizas and enchiladas chipotle, are $17.
• Fajitas are $19, pasta imperial is $29 and rib eye and lobster is $40.
• The asado mamalon is $50, the highest price on the menu.

The ordering page does not list drink prices. The restaurant’s menu page says items and availability may change.

Hours, address and phone

El Jefe Modern Mex is at 831 S. Main St., Rolesville, and the phone number is (919) 263-9371, according to the restaurant’s website. It lists no closed day. Hours, according to the website:

• Monday through Thursday, it is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Friday and Saturday, it is open 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
• Sunday, it is open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A tenant since the first Wallbrook lineup

El Jefe has been on the Wallbrook tenant list since January 2025. On January 15, 2025, Crosland Southeast and Core Sound Development, the joint venture building the center, announced 11 new tenants, according to Core Sound Development’s announcement. The list included “El Jefe Modern Mexican” in 3,155 square feet, the largest space among the 11, and said the new tenants were slated to open in mid-2025.

The same announcement put Wallbrook at about 80 acres with 265,000 square feet of commercial space. The first phase has a 47,000-square-foot Publix and 30,000 square feet of shops. Later phases are planned to add 110,000 square feet of medical and professional office space and 140 townhomes, according to the developers.

The opening took longer than that. On February 27, 2026, WRAL’s Foodie News column reported that El Jefe was opening soon at 831 S. Main St., with no word on an open date.

What else is open and coming at Wallbrook

The town’s downtown page lists 11 businesses as open at Wallbrook, including El Jefe. The other 10 are:

• The grocery anchor, Publix, opened its 46,791-square-foot store at 821 S. Main St. on May 21, 2025, according to the company.
• The two other restaurants on the list are Five Guys and Jersey Mike’s.
• The town lists The Pub Hub as Pub Hub Beer Garden, and it opened as a craft beer taproom.
• The personal care and fitness tenants are Great Clips, Acapella Nail Spa and Club Pilates.
• The medical tenants are JMA Pediatrics and Ideal Dental.
• The center also has a Verizon store.

A separate list on the same page names businesses coming to Rolesville. It does not say where in town each one will go or when it will open. The list names:

• Dumont Creamery is the newest name on the list, with no address or date given.
• Lime & Lemon Fusion Grill & Bar and Sushi Nami are the two restaurants on the list.
• Chipotle and 7-Eleven are also listed.
• Fifth Third Bank and Chase Bank are the two banks on the list.
• The Learning Experience, a child care center, is listed as coming soon.
• Pub Hub Beer Garden appears on the coming-soon list as well as the Wallbrook open list.

Fifth Third Bank was among the 11 Wallbrook tenants in the January 2025 announcement, with 1,900 square feet, according to Core Sound Development.
