Best things to do in Knightdale: town parks and family farms

Knightdale sits in eastern Wake County, south and east of Wake Forest and just east of Raleigh, and its free time happens mostly outdoors. The town's parks pages are current for 2026, and its agritourism page lists eight farms with Knightdale addresses. Knightdale Station Park downtown is the hub, with a splash pad, disc golf and the amphitheater where the town holds its free festivals.

October is a good month to make the drive. Grasshopper Farms has its corn maze running, Pope Farms holds Fall on the Farm on October 17, 2026, and Oak City Brewing Company hosts its 10th annual Oak and Smoke festival on October 10. Our read: pair a farm morning with an afternoon at the park and the taproom next door.

How we chose

Town parks and businesses inside Knightdale came first. Grasshopper Farms, Pope Farms and Haven of Knightdale have Knightdale mailing addresses and appear on the town's agritourism page, but they may sit in unincorporated Wake County. The Neuse River Greenway is in Raleigh, so it is folded into the Mingo Creek entry. Each pick had a dated 2026 signal. Restaurants from our Knightdale restaurants list were left out, along with a private wedding venue, two farms with no 2026 sign and the community pool, closed for the season.

No bowling alley, arcade or escape room turned up in town. Entries are listed alphabetically, not ranked. Hours and prices were last checked in October 2026; call ahead for anything marked unconfirmed.

Environmental Park

A pond with a boardwalk and the town's public fishing dock is the reason to stop at this park by Town Hall and the East Wake Regional Library on N. Smithfield Rd. A gravel walking path, public art and benches round out the grounds, and picnic shelters with grills go first come, first served. It makes an easy add-on to a library trip.

Why we chose them

  • Fishing is catch-and-release only, per the town's park page.
  • Dogs must stay on leashes of 6 feet or less.
  • Parking is at Town Hall or the East Wake Regional Library lots.
  • Geocaching is allowed with approval from the parks department.

Address: Knightdale — 1385 N. Smithfield Rd.

Grasshopper Farms

An old country store on Poole Rd., east of town, anchors this year-round farm; the current owners bought and restored it in 2020. Spring brings u-pick strawberries. Fall brings a four-acre corn maze, a pumpkin patch, hayrides, apple cider and cider donuts, and winter brings fresh-cut Christmas trees, lights and Santa. An ice cream shop, a garden shop and nursery, and a store stocked with NC-made products fill out the property.

Why we chose them

  • Kids Maker's Market dates run every other Saturday from September 12 to December 19, 2026.
  • A playground, a goat petting zoo, a bounce house and a gem mine give younger kids plenty to do.
  • Closed Sunday, and its site lists no 2026 admission prices, so call before a fall visit.
  • The farm's own site says the property's history goes back to the 1890s.
  • The mailing address says Knightdale, but the farm may sit in unincorporated Wake County outside town limits.

Address: Knightdale — 8004 Poole Rd.

Harper Park

Racquet players head to this 4-acre park on Main St., which has four tennis courts and four pickleball courts. More than two of those acres are shaded woods and lawn, and a covered picnic shelter and restrooms are on site. The town's Parks, Recreation & Cultural Programs offices are based here, along with a police substation.

Why we chose them

  • Courts are lit for play until 10 p.m., per the town's park page.
  • Restrooms stay open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Vending is seasonal, so bring water for a long evening match.

Address: Knightdale — 207 Main St.

Haven of Knightdale

A white-washed modern barn surrounded by meadow and forest sits on this 40-acre family-owned farm on Buffaloe Rd., north of town. Weddings are part of the business, yet drop-in visitors get plenty too: the Haven Farm Shoppe with local gifts, plants and refreshments, a coffee shop, a petting zoo and a nature playground. Overnight stays are available in two renovated buildings.

Why we chose them

  • Weekly kids storytime runs Wednesday mornings through January 6, 2027, for $15 plus fees, with registration required.
  • The Goats & Greens market brings about 20 local makers with free admission and ran March 15, April 26 and May 17, 2026.
  • The petting zoo and playground open only during Shoppe hours, Wednesday through Sunday.
  • Saturday Night Lights events run from 6 to 10 p.m.
  • The Buffaloe Rd. address may sit in unincorporated Wake County outside town limits, which could not be confirmed.

Address: Knightdale — 8521 Buffaloe Rd.

Knightdale Marketplace

East Wake's big shopping stop sits off I-540 and Knightdale Blvd., with about 323,113 square feet on roughly 43.5 acres and Target and Home Depot next door. Anchors include Academy Sports + Outdoors, Best Buy, TJ Maxx, Burlington, Ross, HomeGoods, Michaels, PetSmart and Barnes & Noble. Food stops include Starbucks, Five Guys, Jersey Mike's, Qdoba, Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Saltgrass Steak House.

Why we chose them

  • The JLL listing, updated April 8, 2026, showed the center at 100% occupancy.
  • A JLL release that appears to date from September 2026 reports an $86.7 million sale to Invesco Real Estate.
  • Built between 2006 and 2008, per JLL, whose listing and sale release give slightly different years.
  • Sources disagree on the street number, listing both 1006 and 1010 Shoppes at Midway Dr.

Address: Knightdale — 1006 Shoppes at Midway Dr. and 210-304 Hinton Oaks Blvd.

Knightdale Recreation Center

The town's indoor base for athletics and recreation classes sits on Lawson Ridge Rd. It has a gym, multi-purpose rooms and multi-purpose fields, and the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Programs department runs the classes and athletics held there. It suits families signing up for a program more than anyone looking for a spontaneous afternoon out.

Why we chose them

  • Open only for programs or by appointment, with no drop-in hours listed.
  • Multi-purpose rooms and fields can be rented through the town.
  • An undated real-estate guide from Jim Allen says the annual Holiday Fair is held here in mid-November.

Address: Knightdale — 102 Lawson Ridge Rd.

Knightdale Station Park

The town's flagship park covers 71 acres on N. First Ave. downtown, next to Oak City Brewing. The land was farmed and run as a nursery for years, and the design nods to that past and to Knightdale's railroad history. An amphitheater, an inclusive playground, the Gauntlet 9 disc golf course, the Ashley Wilder Dog Park, a central pond, a pollinator meadow, paved greenway and the Veterans Memorial all share the grounds.

Why we chose them

  • The 2,000-square-foot splash pad has 20 sprayers and a steam-engine water tower design, per a 2019 town release.
  • Open since September 19, 2013, with the splash pad added in July 2019.
  • Pickin' in the Park, a free bluegrass and BBQ festival, filled the amphitheater on May 16, 2026.
  • At town festivals coolers are allowed, but tents, grills and alcohol are not.
  • Paved parking, restrooms, picnic shelters and rentable Wilder Plaza pavilions are on site.

Address: Knightdale — 810 N. First Ave.

Mingo Creek Park & Greenway

Knightdale's door to the Neuse River Greenway starts at this 8.2-acre park off Parkside Commons Dr. on the west side of town. Trails mix wooded boardwalk with paved asphalt and run down to the Neuse River, where a pedestrian bridge near Raleigh's Anderson Point Park connects to about 30 miles of greenway, per the town. The park itself has two half-court basketball courts, a playground, a dog park and a play lawn.

Why we chose them

  • The current town page puts the trail system at 4.75 miles, while an older town page says 3.5.
  • Raleigh's Neuse River Greenway page shows Code Yellow and Code Red closure alerts on parts of the trail.
  • The Neuse section belongs to the City of Raleigh, which keeps trail parking at Anderson Point Park.
  • The trail system also connects to Knightdale Station Park.
  • Volunteers can sign up through the town's Adopt-A-Trail program.

Address: Knightdale — 100 Parkside Commons Dr.

Oak City Brewing Company

Tap house, beer garden and nano brewery in one, this downtown spot faces Knightdale Station Park from N. First Ave. About 20 rotating craft beers pour from the taps, per Triangle on the Cheap. There is no kitchen, so food trucks rotate through instead. It is the only taproom confirmed inside Knightdale, and families and dogs are welcome.

Why we chose them

  • Pints are $1 off on Tuesdays, according to the brewery's own site.
  • Run Club meets Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m., per its own site.
  • The 10th Annual Oak and Smoke beer, BBQ and bluegrass festival runs October 10, 2026, from noon to 8 p.m.
  • The town's farmers market sets up here on the second Sunday of each month, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Visit Raleigh lists different hours, including a Monday closing, so check the brewery's own site first.

Address: Knightdale — 616 N. First Ave.

Pope Farms

Working since 1954, according to the town's agritourism page, the Pope family farm splits across two Knightdale addresses: the Country Store on Bethlehem Rd. and a strawberry field and spring farm store on Fayetteville St. Pick-your-own strawberry season usually starts in late April or early May, per Visit Raleigh. A self-serve produce stand runs around the clock in summer, and November brings the annual Turkey Shoot on Fridays and Saturdays.

Why we chose them

  • Fall on the Farm runs October 17, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with $20 tickets and under-2s free.
  • A festival ticket covers a hot dog and drink, the Kid Zone and a hayride to the patch with one pie pumpkin.
  • The farm store is free to shop without a festival ticket.
  • Country Store hours run Thursday through Saturday only, so check the farm's social media before going.
  • The Bethlehem Rd. store may sit in unincorporated Wake County outside town limits, which could not be confirmed.

Address: Knightdale — 1008 Bethlehem Rd. (strawberry field at 1305 Fayetteville St.)

Prices, hours and opening status last checked October 6, 2026. Call ahead where an entry says to.
