Falls Lake State Recreation Area, with its Wake Forest access, is a North Carolina state park located in Durham and Wake counties about 15 miles east of downtown Durham. The park provides seven access areas to the Falls Lake reservoir and more than 300 campsites offering a variety of overnight experiences. Trails include a portion of the Mountains-to-Sea State Trail as well as one of the premier mountain bike trail systems in the Triangle at the Beaverdam access. Visitors come for swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and camping, and in spring and fall migrating monarch butterflies pass through. Details are at ncparks.gov/falls-lake-state-recreation-area.
