Wake Electric Membership Corp.

About

Wake Electric is a member-owned electric cooperative with its headquarters on South Franklin Street in Wake Forest. It serves more than 53,000 members and nearly 60,000 locations across northern Wake County and has been at it for 86 years.

Because it is a cooperative, the people it serves are also its owners, and its stated mission is reliable, safe and affordable power. It puts money and effort back into the area too, through classroom grants and its annual Youth Tour. The co-op also aims for a grid that is efficient, resilient and cleaner over time.

What to know

  • Members can pay bills, start or stop service and report outages online.
  • An outage map shows where power is out across the system.
  • Education grants of up to $3,000 fund classroom technology at local schools.
  • The co-op publishes solar and electric vehicle resources for members.
  • Annual meeting recaps and co-op news are posted for members.
