Best wound care centers near Wake Forest: hospitals and podiatry

Wake Forest has no hospital-based or independent outpatient wound center of its own. The closest hospital programs are in Raleigh and Knightdale, run by Duke Health, UNC Health Rex and WakeMed. The rest of the field is podiatry practices that treat foot and leg wounds as part of their work. Searches for Wake Forest wound care also pull up Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, which is in Winston-Salem.

The editor's pick is Ironworks Podiatry, which brands itself Ironworks Foot, Ankle & Wound Care Center. It is a new podiatry practice in Rolesville that opened on July 30, 2026, per its own site, and handles foot care and wound care in one visit. Rex Wound Healing Center of Knightdale has hyperbaric oxygen on site, and Duke Raleigh Wound Healing Center says patients do not need a physician referral. The list reaches about 30 minutes from town.

How we chose

We started inside Wake Forest, which has one podiatry office with a wound care page, then widened to Rolesville, Raleigh and Knightdale, where the hospital centers are. Facts came from each provider's own site first, and awards counted only when named and dated. We cut a west Raleigh UNC Rex center and WakeMed Cary on distance, plus two podiatry offices with no wound program listed.

These are medical providers whose care we have not judged or used. The picks rest on training, board certification as stated, services listed, hospital ties and a 2026 signal; the state licensee lookup would not open for any doctor. Entries are alphabetical, not ranked, last checked in October 2026. Confirm insurance and referral rules with each office. The list stops at six, where verified picks stop.

Duke Raleigh Wound Healing Center

Duke Raleigh Hospital's outpatient wound clinic is on Wake Forest Road in Raleigh, near the hospital, and is the closest hospital-based wound program to Wake Forest. Duke's page lists wound assessment with diagnostic testing, debridement, advanced dressings, compression therapy and total contact casting for offloading, for diabetic, venous, arterial and pressure ulcers. The care team draws on internal, family, geriatric, emergency and vascular medicine, plastic and orthopaedic surgery, and certified wound care nurses. Staff also coordinate home care and equipment such as boots and mattresses.

Why we chose them

  • Per the health system's page, physician referrals are not required, the only center on this list to say so.
  • It is a Duke University Hospital outpatient department, and Duke warns that hospital-based clinics carry additional facility charges.
  • Its 2026 signal is a Duke job posting for a medical assistant at the center, dated May 2, 2026.
  • Hyperbaric oxygen therapy does not appear among the services Duke lists for this clinic.

Address: Raleigh — 3320 Wake Forest Rd., Suite 300

InStride Capital Foot & Ankle Centers

The only podiatry office inside the Town of Wake Forest with its own wound care page, this InStride branch is in the Capital Commerce Center off Capital Boulevard. The page sorts wounds by cause and by how long they have lasted, then names surgical debridement, custom bracing and offloading, growth-factor and live-cell skin grafts, collagen dressings, compression wraps and surgical limb salvage. Podiatrists Eldon Peters, Alyssa Carroll, Jacob Panici and Brittany Brower are named on the practice site.

Why we chose them

  • Accepted-plan logos on the main practice site include Medicare and WellCare Medicare.
  • An ABPM board certification badge appears on Dr. Eldon Peters' bio on the practice site.
  • This office belongs to InStride Capital Foot & Ankle Centers, a group with five Triangle offices.
  • Referral and new-patient forms can be downloaded from the practice site.
  • No page on the practice site carries a 2026 date, so call or use the online request form first.

Address: Wake Forest — 123 Capcom Ave., Suite 2

Ironworks Foot, Ankle & Wound Care Center (Ironworks Podiatry)

Ironworks is a new podiatry practice in Rolesville, opened July 30, 2026, per its own site, that handles foot, ankle and wound care in the same visit. The site lists care for diabetic foot ulcers, arterial and venous stasis ulcers, trauma wounds and surgical wounds, with debridement, compression therapy, advanced dressings, infection management and on-site digital X-ray. Founder Dr. Aaron Leshikar signs as DPM, CWSP and FACCWS, and he did a surgical and limb-salvage residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

Why we chose them

  • Wilmington Health's bio describes Dr. Leshikar as board certified as a wound physician by the ABWM.
  • The Ironworks site lists his credentials but does not name the board behind that certification.
  • Per Wilmington Health, he earned his DPM at Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine in 2014.
  • His practice's own site says he sits on the ACCWS board and is secretary of the North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society.
  • Same-week appointments and walk-ins are accepted at the Rolesville office, per its site.

Address: Rolesville — 101 Redford Place Drive, Suite 202

Raleigh Foot & Ankle Center

This Raleigh podiatry group on Wake Forest Road, near Duke Raleigh Hospital and about 20 minutes from downtown Wake Forest, has a dedicated wound care page. It covers diabetic foot ulcers and other lower-extremity wounds, with wound staging, debridement, offloading with casts, boots or orthotics, skin substitutes or specialized dressings, topical antimicrobials and nutrition guidance. Surgery to correct the deformities that cause some ulcers is also on the page. It is the most detailed podiatry wound page in range.

Why we chose them

  • The practice dates to 1977, per its own About page.
  • Duke Health lists three of its podiatrists, Meyers, Smith and Dougherty, as certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.
  • It belongs to the US Foot & Ankle Specialists (USFAS) network, and WakeMed also lists it as a location.
  • Some older contact pages on its site show a past Millbrook Road address, so use the Wake Forest Road office.
  • Its home page carries dated blog posts as recent as October 12, 2026.

Address: Raleigh — 3801 Wake Forest Rd., Suite 100

Rex Wound Healing Center of Knightdale

UNC Health Rex runs this outpatient wound clinic on Knightdale Boulevard in Knightdale as a department of Rex Hospital. Its page names hyperbaric oxygen, negative pressure wound therapy and bioengineered tissue grafting, and lists diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, peripheral artery disease and venous stasis disease among the conditions it sees. Across the UNC Rex wound centers, the system also lists debridement, compression therapy, growth factors and advanced dressings. New-patient forms are posted on the location page.

Why we chose them

  • Its own page confirms hyperbaric oxygen at this location, the closest hyperbaric program to Wake Forest on this list.
  • The center coordinates each plan of care with the patient's primary care physician, per UNC Rex.
  • As a department of Rex Hospital, it is part of the UNC Health Rex system.
  • No dated 2026 post about this center turned up, so call before a first visit.

Four specialty clinics cover general surgery, plastic surgery, orthopaedic foot and ankle, and vascular surgery. The team adds podiatrists, certified wound care nurses, physical therapists, orthotists, dietitians and hyperbaric technicians.

Why we chose them

  • Hyperbaric indications on the program page include diabetic foot ulcers, radiation injuries, and compromised grafts and flaps.
  • It is the only hospital program on this list that names a medical director.
  • At about 25 to 30 minutes from Wake Forest, it sits at the edge of this list's range.
  • No dated 2026 post for the program turned up and the page lists no hours, so call the appointment line first.
