Great coffee, great friends: the White Street original that outlasted the trends

The community coffeehouse that was downtown's living room before that was a genre.

Before specialty coffee had tasting notes and subscription tiers, Wake Forest Coffee Company was already pouring on South White Street — and its motto hasn't needed an update since: Great Coffee, Great Friends, Great Times.

The longtime downtown gathering spot treats coffee as something different and special for everyone who drinks it — less a product philosophy than a hosting one. It's where the town's morning meetings, first dates, and Bible studies have overlapped for years.

The operation has quietly modernized where it counts: order-ahead and curbside pickup, an easy rewards program, and gift cards at the counter.

Downtown now has newer, shinier coffee. What it has exactly one of is the original — the room where a generation of Wake Forest decided coffee shops were where the town happens.

Hours and the rewards program are on their directory listing.
