Rolesville’s new police and fire station plans are in review

Site development plans for Rolesville’s new police station and fire station are in their second round of staff review, according to the Town of Rolesville’s Town Campus project page, updated September 18. The town issued comments on the plans on September 11, and on September 14 it issued first-round comments on a preliminary subdivision plat for the campus. The campus is a 17-acre site at 406 and 408 East Young Street.

What the Town Campus is

The site is made up of two parcels that the Town of Rolesville bought in early 2021. According to the town’s campus plans page, the plan is to bring town services together in one place. The site plan the town has shown the public includes:

• A new town hall.
• A police department building.
• A fire station.
• A Wake County library.
• A community center.

The police and fire stations are the pieces now in formal site plan review.

ADW Architects drew the site plan. Before the town bought the land, its on-call engineer, ColeJenest & Stone, studied storm drainage, environmental conditions and geotechnical issues on the property. The town held a public open house on the plans in June 2023 at the C. Frank Eagles Board Room in the current Town Hall at 502 Southtown Circle.

Annexation, rezoning and the plans in review

The Town Campus project page lists the annexation and rezoning steps.

The Board of Commissioners approved bringing the property into town limits on September 2, 2025. The annexation ordinance was recorded on March 26, 2026.

The town held a neighborhood meeting on the rezoning on May 7, 2026. The Planning Board voted 5-0 on May 18 to recommend approval, and the Board of Commissioners approved the change on June 16, 2026. The property went from Residential Low to Business, Industrial and Technology under ordinance ORD-2026-15.

As of September, three sets of plans are in the town’s review line:

• The police and fire station site development plans, on their second version, with comments issued September 11.
• The construction infrastructure drawings, on their fourth version in the September review cycle.
• The preliminary subdivision plat, on its first version, with comments issued September 14.

How the fire department became part of the town

The Rolesville Rural Fire Department was incorporated on June 3, 1958, and operated as an independent nonprofit for more than 65 years. After about three years of talks, working with an outside advisor, NC Fire Chief Consulting, and a unification committee, the department and the town formally united.

Mayor Ronnie Currin called the unification “a moment of deep pride for Rolesville.” Town Manager Eric Marsh said the goal was to preserve the strengths of the department, and Interim Fire Chief Jacob Butler said it gives the department greater support for its mission.

The department works out of 104 East Young Street. The town says a new main fire station on East Young Street was approved as part of the campus on June 4, 2024.

National Night Out on October 6

Rolesville is holding National Night Out on Tuesday, October 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Redford Place Park, 121 Redford Place Drive. The town’s announcement lists free food, games, music, and a chance to meet police officers and first responders, along with crime prevention tips and demonstrations. Admission is free.

Police Chief David Simmons II called it “a great opportunity” for officers to connect with the community in a relaxed setting.
