44 new businesses opened in Wake Forest this year. Here’s the map of where the town is growing

Forty-four new businesses have landed on the Town of Wake Forest’s certificate-of-occupancy list since January, and reading it in one sitting tells you more about where the town is headed than any press release. The short version: a whole retail node is forming on Rogers Branch Road, the restaurant count keeps climbing, and health care is quietly the biggest category of all. Every business below is now in the directory.

Rogers Branch Road is becoming a destination

Eight of this year’s arrivals share a few hundred feet of Rogers Branch Road, which makes it the fastest-growing address in town. The wellness cluster runs deep: barre3, the national barre fitness brand with a devoted following, is hiring its founding instructor team for Suite 104. Pilates Addiction is next door at 3604, Holistic Vitality Center and 4Ever Young share the 3601 building, and Pulp Juice & Smoothie Bar will handle the post-workout crowd. Then it gets more interesting: Anstead’s Cigar Barn brings a cigar lounge to Suite 106, Modern Tasty Food takes a kitchen at 3604, and The Swing Bays opens an indoor golf simulator venue at 3615 for the months when the real courses are soggy. One street, eight reasons to park once and walk. It’s the same pattern Gateway Commons and Grove 98 followed on the other side of town: a couple of anchors sign, the fitness and food follow, and eighteen months later there’s a place name where a parcel number used to be.

The food keeps coming

The restaurant story this year isn’t one opening, it’s the spread. Chopt Creative Salad Co., the New York-born chain that built its name on chopped salads and warm grain bowls, put its first local outpost on Ligon Mill Road back in January. Warehouse BBQ claimed a Capital Boulevard address in June, which means the smoker debate now has a northern front. Rivera’s Pupusas Restaurant on Durham Road gives the town a dedicated pupuseria, and if you’ve never had pupusas, the griddled Salvadoran corn cakes stuffed with cheese and pork, that’s your assignment this week. Downtown, Aimz Eatery took a spot on North White Street. Shine & Dine set up on South Main, and Raleigh Cakes, despite the name, bakes on Unicon Drive right here in Wake Forest.

Health care is the biggest category, again

Sixteen of the forty-four are health and wellness businesses, which tracks with a town adding rooftops this fast. The anchor is Novant Health on Ligon Mill Road, a meaningful expansion for a town still pushing for its own hospital, a fight we covered in last week’s news roundup and one that every new clinic on this list quietly reinforces. Cardinal Points Imaging adds medical imaging at the Wake Forest Business Park. Families get JMA Pediatrics on Rogers Road and Caring Connections Pediatric Therapy at Heritage Center. The counseling and therapy side filled in fast too: Thrive Brain Health & Therapy, Pathways To Healing and Clemons Resiliency & Wellness all opened this year. Athletes get D1 Training on Timberline View Drive, with Equal Optics a few suites down. And the town’s nail salons gained two: Slaye Nail Bar on Retail Way and Nail Kitchen on Retail Drive.

The everyday economy, filled in

The unglamorous half of the list is the part a growing town actually runs on. VAD HVAC and North State Pools joined the Timberline View trades corridor. Prizm Pest Control opened on Merritt Capital Drive. The Wash House Laundromat took Capital Boulevard, and DIV Cleaning Service and Majestic Marble & Glass round out the home-services bench. Money and paperwork got easier too: Huntington Bank opened a branch at Grove Village Road near the new restaurant row, Coldwell Banker planted a flag at Gateway Commons, and Carlson Financial Services, Executive Legal and Breeden Law Office cover the professional side. A few one-of-a-kind arrivals deserve their own sentence: Randy’s Sewing Center on South Main, Railway Smoke and Beverage on South White, Alphabet Soup Tutoring on Ligon Mill, Revelation Ink tattoo studio on Durham Road, and Ministerio Profético Cristo la Roca, a new church congregation, also on Durham Road.

What the list says about the town

Add it up and the pattern is hard to miss. Growth used to mean chains on Capital Boulevard. This year’s list spreads across Rogers Branch, Timberline View, Heritage Center, Durham Road and both ends of White Street, and most of the names on it are independents. The chains that did arrive, Chopt, barre3, D1 Training, Huntington, picked Wake Forest for their first or only location in this corner of the county, which is its own kind of signal about where the customers are. The town that shows up in these filings cooks more kinds of food, treats more kinds of patients and fixes more of its own houses than the one on last year’s list.
