Gallicchio’s Market and Eatery opens on Person Street in Raleigh

News October 9, 2026 3 min read Suggest a correction

Gallicchio’s Market & Eatery, an Italian market and deli from chef and owner Stacy Gallicchio Murphy, opened on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 702 N. Person St. in Raleigh‘s Oakwood neighborhood, Axios Raleigh reported. The shop is in the former (Ish) Delicatessen space on Person Street, which closed earlier in 2026.

Axios said the first day of business followed several pop-ups in the space. Triangle Food Blog reported in its October 9 roundup that the market opened the day before. The Raleigh openings list at NC Triangle Dining gives a slightly different timeline, with a soft open on October 1 and a full opening on October 9.

What is on the menu at Gallicchio’s

Gallicchio’s has two parts, according to Axios. One is a case of house-made pastas, vegetables such as broccoli rabe and take-home meals. The other is a bar menu of salads, pastas and sandwiches. Axios reported that everything is made in-house and that special dinners are planned.

The sandwiches Axios named are:

  • A roasted pork sandwich with broccoli rabe costs $16.
  • A muffuletta is on the bar menu.
  • A meatball sub is also on the bar menu.

Murphy laid out more of the plan in an August 21, 2026, interview with WhatNow, before the opening. She described a restaurant paired with a neighborhood market of prepared food. The plans she outlined then included:

  • An antipasti case would hold about 13 to 14 selections, including salads, marinated vegetables, olives, house-made sausage and eggplant.
  • Sauces would be sold by the pint or quart, along with lasagna and other prepared meals to take home.
  • The eatery menu would have sandwiches, salads, a Milanese dish and a rotating seasonal fish, with food made to order.
  • Bread would be made in-house.
  • The drinks list would run about 12 wines at a time, plus European beers.
  • The dining room would have about 30 seats.

“We won’t be selling anything that we don’t make in house,” Murphy told WhatNow. She said she expected a fast lunch service during the day, with a later shift toward guests lingering over wine and antipasti.

Who is behind the market

Gallicchio is Murphy’s maiden name, according to the business’s website, and the rooster on the window comes from the family crest. The website names Murphy and Nate as the people behind the business and says the two live on Person Street.

Murphy grew up around New England markets and trained at a culinary school in Connecticut, according to the website. Axios reported that she modeled Gallicchio’s on the Italian delis of New England.

Axios and the business’s website list her past kitchens:

  • She worked at Emeril’s in New Orleans.
  • She cooked at Ming Tsai’s Blue Ginger in Massachusetts.
  • She also worked at Armsby Abbey in Massachusetts.

Triangle Food Blog wrote that Raleigh diners may know Murphy from the Pounded Pig Food Truck. Raleigh Magazine reported on September 1, 2026, that the new business comes from the team behind the former Pounded Pig Food Truck.

The Person Street space

In the WhatNow interview, Murphy described 702 N. Person St. as a former neighborhood pharmacy building that has been part of the surrounding community for generations. Axios reported that (Ish) Delicatessen, the sandwich shop that held the space before Gallicchio’s, shared it with Person Street Pharmacy.

The business’s employment page lists openings for a full-time baker to build a bread program, along with line cooks, prep cooks, dishwashers and part-time market staff.
