D1 Training opens at Wake Forest Exchange on Timberline View Drive
D1 Training held its grand opening and Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 920 Timberline View Drive in Wake Forest Exchange, the St. John Properties business park off Capital Boulevard near Falls of Neuse Road. The youth and adult athletic training gym occupies Suites 108 through 110 of the park’s first building, according to the company’s website, and the ribbon cutting ran from noon to 1 p.m. with raffles and free merchandise, according to the chamber’s event listing.
The gym is the first D1 Training location in Wake Forest. It is owned by Dylan and Kasey Hudock, who are listed as the owners on the chamber’s member page. The Town of Wake Forest’s new-business list recorded D1 Training at 920 Timberline View Drive, Suite 108, in March 2026.
What the gym offers and when it is open
D1 Training runs coach-led group classes split by age, plus one-on-one and team sessions, according to the company’s website. The Wake Forest location lists these programs:
- Rookie classes are for ages 7 to 11.
- Devo classes are for ages 12 to 14.
- Prep classes are for ages 15 to 18.
- Adult Training is for ages 18 and up.
- Personal training, team training and specialty training are offered alongside the group classes.
The website names six coaches on the Wake Forest staff: Mike Winkfield, Justice Crawford, Luke Vrooman, CJ Grice, Matthew Gilbert and Greg Stephenson. The company said in February that the location would employ 10 to 12 people, including certified coaches, according to a lease announcement published by citybiz.
Posted hours on the company’s website are:
- Monday runs from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Tuesday runs from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Wednesday runs from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Thursday through Sunday run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The gym has no listed closed days. The phone number is 984-251-1852.
D1 Training was founded in 2001 by former NFL player Will Bartholomew and is based in Nashville, Tennessee. The franchise had more than 170 open locations as of February 10, 2026, according to a company release on PR Newswire. The same release describes its standard 54-minute session as a dynamic warm-up, speed and agility work, strength training, core and conditioning, and a cool-down.
How the lease came together
St. John Properties announced the D1 Training lease on February 2, 2026, as one of the first two leases at Wake Forest Exchange, according to citybiz. D1 took 5,580 square feet. The other inaugural tenant, Happy Feet Planet, signed for 15,120 square feet in the same building. Jon Stanley of CBRE represented D1 Training, and Dustin Atkielski, St. John Properties’ regional partner, represented the landlord.
Dylan Hudock said in the announcement that the family’s interest in the franchise came from youth sports. “Our family is deeply involved with youth sports, particularly ice hockey,” he said. Kasey Hudock said the site was chosen partly because it sits within a mile or two of every local high school, since coaches plan to visit the schools to work with student athletes, and partly because the building’s high ceilings allowed the build-out the gym needed.
The building at 920 Timberline View Drive is a single-story, 60,240-square-foot flex and research-and-development building with 18-foot ceilings, rear dock and drive-in loading, and surface parking, according to St. John Properties. Wake Forest Exchange covers 30 acres along Star Road east of Capital Boulevard. St. John Properties bought the site in late 2023 and broke ground in June 2025, according to Wake Forest Business and Industry Partnership. The company says the park will hold more than 180,000 square feet of flex, medical flex and retail space and support more than 650 jobs at full build-out. An 11,090-square-foot inline retail building was nearing completion in February, according to citybiz.
Who else is in the building
D1 Training’s neighbors at 920 Timberline View Drive now include an indoor playground, a pool builder, a technology company and an HVAC contractor:
- The indoor playground Happy Feet Planet opened in Suite 138 on May 28, 2026, according to the company’s social media posts, and its website lists hours of 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
- The fiberglass pool builder North State Pools took 2,790 square feet in Suite 112 after moving from Capcom Avenue, according to St. John Properties’ September 21, 2026 release.
- The Austin, Texas company Equal Optics, a supplier of optical transceivers and network cabling, signed for 12,120 square feet in Suite 124 for its headquarters, according to the same release.
- VAD HVAC was recorded at Suite 120 on the town’s new-business list in August 2026.
Happy Feet Planet is owned by Eric Liu of Apex, who also runs locations in Apex and Clayton, according to Wake Forest Business and Industry Partnership. The Wake Forest playground serves children from 6 months to 12 years old, according to the company’s website, and its phone number is 919-426-2466.
