The best HVAC companies in the Raleigh area

Heating and air conditioning is licensed in North Carolina, and the license tells you more than most people realize. The state board records classifications rather than a single grade: Heating Group 1, 2 or 3, each in Class I or Class II, and often plumbing or fire sprinkler work alongside. A company with Groups 1, 2 and 3 can work across almost the whole residential and light commercial range.

All twelve companies below hold current licenses with no disciplinary action. The entries name the classifications, because on a large job that is the thing worth knowing.

We have not hired any of these companies and nobody paid to be listed. Every license, rating and date below was checked against the issuing board or the Better Business Bureau on the date at the foot of this guide. Anything a company claims that we could not verify is described as a claim.

How we chose

Every license was checked at the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors, including each license's public record. BBB ratings and accreditation dates came from each company's own BBB profile. Where a company publishes a founding year that disagrees with its BBB file, the entry says so, because that is the one headline figure on this list no board verifies, and six of these twelve do not agree with their own records.

One disclosure: Air Experts and Raleigh Heating & Air both appear below and are one operator under two brands. They are separately licensed and both are in good standing. We have run both and said so, so that nobody calls them for a second opinion and gets the same one twice. Entries are alphabetical and unranked.

Air Experts Heating & Cooling

One license covers both the heating and the plumbing side here, current through the end of 2026 and clean at the state board. Emergency calls are answered around the clock, and Wake Forest sits inside the published service area. Two details deserve a closer look before you dial: the founding year the company gives for itself, and the relationship between this brand and another one further down this list.

Why we chose them

  • License L.31142 covers Heating Group 3 Class I and Plumbing Class I, no public matters.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation since January 2010.
  • The site says 1986 and the BBB file says 1989, so confirm the founding date.
  • Shares both addresses, guarantee branding and a license-record phone number with Raleigh Heating & Air.
  • The two brands are one operator, so calling both will not get a second opinion.

Address: Raleigh — 7 Rupert Rd., and 2730 Rowland Rd.

Allen Kelly & Company

Breadth of license is the case for this Raleigh company. Heating Groups 1, 2 and 3 with their technician classes, plus Plumbing Class I, covers close to the whole range of residential and light commercial heating work. Estimates are free, emergency service runs 24/7, and the service area names Wake Forest along with Clayton, Durham, Garner and Morrisville. The founding year, on the other hand, comes in three different versions.

Why we chose them

  • License L.07049 is current through the end of 2026 with no public matters.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation since June 2017.
  • The site says 1988 on one page and 1994 on another, while BBB says 1986.
  • Treat any anniversary claim with care until the company settles on one year.

Address: Raleigh — 220 Tryon Rd., Ste. A

Alternative Aire

Publishing a license number is rare in this trade, and this Durham company does it: the NC H2 and H3-Class 1 number on its site matches the board record exactly. Pricing is upfront and flat-rate, with the figure approved before any work starts, and technicians carry NATE certification. Site and BBB agree the business incorporated in 2009. Distance is the catch for a reader on the north side of Wake County.

Why we chose them

  • License L.30223 covers Heating Group 2 and Group 3 Class I, clean through 2026.
  • BBB rates the company A+, and it is not accredited.
  • The published service area is Durham and the Triangle, without naming Wake Forest.
  • Same-day service is offered, but no 24/7 emergency line is published.

Address: Durham — 3156 Hillsborough Rd.

Bolton Construction & Service

Fire sprinkler inspection and installation sit on this company's license alongside Heating Groups 1, 2 and 3 and Plumbing Class I, the widest reach on the list and a real differentiator for anyone with an older or larger house. The claim to have been working since 1925 is backed by the BBB file, at 101 years. Emergency repairs run around the clock, and the service area names Wake Forest alongside Raleigh, Cary, Morrisville and Apex.

Why we chose them

  • License L.22834 is the widest on this list, current through 2026 with no public matters.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation since October 2010.
  • Advertises no hidden fees and no surprise costs on its pricing.
  • The satisfaction guarantee and Fixed Right Promise carry no stated length, so ask.

Address: Raleigh — 1623 Old Louisburg Rd., Ste. 2

Call Dad AC & Heating

A stated warranty length is close to unheard of in this trade, and this Raleigh company publishes one: a year on all labor and parts, in plain words, with free estimates alongside it. Emergency air conditioning and plumbing service runs 24 hours a day. The business is about thirteen years old, a figure its site and its BBB file agree on, and it traded as Sky HVAC before the current name.

Why we chose them

  • Warranty covers one year on all labor and parts, stated in plain words.
  • License L.37064 covers Heating Group 3 Class I, current through 2026 with no public matters.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation since July 2020.
  • Covers Asheville, Charlotte, Greensboro, Hickory, Raleigh and Winston-Salem, without naming Wake Forest.
  • Two different phone numbers appear on BBB and the license record, so use the site's.

Address: Raleigh — 8810 Westgate Park Dr., Ste. 114

Carolina Comfort Air

Working out of Clayton, this company carries heating coverage in both Class I and Class II across Groups 2 and 3, plus a separate electrical license. Its service area reaches from Wake Forest and Raleigh down to Wilmington and Jacksonville, which is a long way for one outfit to cover. One marketing line needs a careful read, and neither a pricing commitment nor a warranty term appears anywhere on the site.

Why we chose them

  • License L.31589 covers Heating Groups 2 and 3 in both classes, clean through 2026.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation since October 2010.
  • The top five national Trane dealer claim is a sales ranking, not Comfort Specialist status.
  • The site publishes no founding year, against the BBB file's 2007.
  • The response promise is within 24 hours, so this is not around-the-clock service.

Address: Clayton — 5212 US 70 Bus. Hwy. W

Comfort Pro

Pricing is put in writing before anything starts here: a measured diagnosis, a number you approve, and that number is what you pay. A lifetime workmanship warranty on select work goes with it, which nobody else on this list offers. Technicians hold NATE and EPA Section 608 certification. The company has been owner-led since 2013, a date its site and BBB file agree on, and the phone is answered around the clock.

Why we chose them

  • License L.31534 covers Heating Group 3 Class I, current through 2026 and clean.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation since May 2017.
  • Eighteen Triangle cities are served, and Wake Forest is named among them.
  • The base is Cary rather than Raleigh, and no manufacturer tier is published.

Address: Cary — 101 Woodwinds Industrial Ct., Ste. M

Cool Change Heating & Air Conditioning

Two license numbers circulate for this Raleigh company, and only the newer one is live at the board. Same-day service is advertised, though after-hours availability turns up only in a customer testimonial rather than in published policy, and neither a warranty length nor an estimate commitment appears on the site. The service area does name Wake Forest, along with Raleigh and Cary, which counts for a reader north of the city.

Why we chose them

  • The current license is L.37632, Heating Group 3 Class I, with no public matters.
  • The #23860 cited on the BBB profile is an older record, so quote the current one.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation since September 2012.
  • Sells Trane equipment but publishes no Trane Comfort Specialist status.
  • The site says more than 25 years while the BBB file says 1994, which conflict.

Address: Raleigh — 2210 E. Millbrook Rd., Ste. 103

Newcomb and Company

Seventy-two years in Raleigh, and the date checks out against the BBB file. The heating license covers Groups 1, 2 and 3, with additional mechanical and electrical licenses on top of it, so the breadth of what this company can legally touch is the argument for it. Emergency service runs around the clock across a service area that names Wake Forest along with Cary, Durham, Chapel Hill and Wilmington.

Why we chose them

  • License L.19479 is current through the end of 2026 with no public matters.
  • BBB rates it A+, and the company is not accredited.
  • No manufacturer tier, written-estimate commitment or warranty length is published.
  • One page still advertises 65-plus years, which lags the 1954 founding date.

Address: Raleigh — 3000 Comfort Ct.

Raleigh Heating & Air

The mechanical license number on the site matches the board record exactly, which happens less often than it should. Emergency service runs 24/7, and the service area names Raleigh, Wake Forest, Cary and greater Wake County. BBB accreditation goes back to 2004, the second longest run on this list. Two things need flagging: the founding year is told several ways, and this is the same operator as Air Experts above.

Why we chose them

  • License L.35592 covers Heating Group 3 Class I, clean through the end of 2026.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation running back to October 2004.
  • The site gives 1986, 1992 and more than 30 years, while BBB says 1990.
  • Shares two addresses, guarantee branding and a license-record phone number with Air Experts.
  • Both brands are separately licensed and legitimate, but they are not independent opinions.

Address: Raleigh — 2730 Rowland Rd., and 7 Rupert Rd.

Weather Master Heating & Air Conditioning

Accreditation dating to June 1995 is the longest BBB run on this list by more than a decade, and 49 years in business back it up, with site and BBB file in agreement. The license reaches across Heating Group 2, Group 3 in both classes, a technician class and Plumbing Class I. Plumbing work carries a money-back satisfaction promise. The company works from Knightdale and covers five counties.

Why we chose them

  • License L.17326 is current through the end of 2026 with no public matters.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation since June 1995.
  • Coverage is Wake, Durham, Granville, Chatham and Johnston counties, so Wake Forest qualifies unnamed.
  • No workmanship warranty length is published for the heating side.
  • No emergency service is published, which is unusual for a firm this size.

Address: Knightdale — 305 Village Dr.

Yellow Dot Heating & Air Conditioning

Only one company on these pages publishes a service page written for Wake Forest, and this is it. The line readers will care about most is the fee policy: no extra charge for evenings or weekends on 24/7 emergency calls, which cover heating, plumbing and electrical work. Estimates are free and carry no obligation, and the business dates to 2002, a year both the site and the BBB file give.

Why we chose them

  • License L.32872 covers Heating Group 3 Class I plus Plumbing Class I and II.
  • A separate electrical license sits alongside it, current through 2026 and clean.
  • BBB rates it A+, with accreditation granted only in November 2025.
  • The 100 percent satisfaction guarantee carries no stated length.
  • No manufacturer certification tier is published on the site.

Address: Raleigh — 2400 Sumner Blvd., Ste. 120
