Best garage door companies in Durham: 7 verified picks

Durham has few garage door companies that hold up to a check. One clears every bar easily: The Aluminum Company of North Carolina, on Hamlin Road since 1961. Clopay's own dealer locator for Durham and Chapel Hill lists five dealers, and none sits in either city. Many search results for garage door repair Durham NC lead to lead-gen pages with no business behind them.

So this list widened in two directions: a franchise with a Durham office, and Raleigh and Cary companies whose own sites name Durham. RJ Garage Door Service leads at the editor's choice and serves Durham from its Raleigh office. Precision Garage Door of Raleigh has the Durham suite on US 15-501, and Garage Door Specialist works from a Raleigh showroom near RTP.

Our read: for a broken spring or a noisy opener, the Raleigh and Cary firms are the realistic calls; The Aluminum Company is the place to shop for a new door.

How we chose

Durham offices came first, then Raleigh and Cary companies whose own sites name Durham as a service area. Each needed a 2026 signal. Facts came from each business's own site first, and awards count only when named and dated. We cut spam and lead-gen pages, firms with no 2026 date, and shops too far out (Clayton, Franklinton).

The picks rest on checkable facts: years in business, BBB rating and accreditation, manufacturer dealer status, IDA membership, published warranties and fees, and a 2026 signal. We have not hired any of them, and review stars are never cited. RJ Garage Door Service is listed first at the editor's choice; the rest are alphabetical, not ranked. Prices were last checked in October 2026. The list stops where verified picks stop.

RJ Garage Door Service

A Raleigh repair and installation company on Atlantic Avenue, RJ covers Durham from that northeast Raleigh office; its service-area page groups Durham, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and Carrboro under "Durham & Orange County." The Durham page lists spring, cable, roller, track, panel and sensor repair, opener work, loading dock doors and preventive maintenance plans. Brands named on its site include Raynor, LiftMaster, Amarr, C.H.I., Clopay and Wayne Dalton. It posts no prices and gives free estimates on opener repair and replacement.

Why we chose them

• BBB rates it A+ and lists it as accredited since March 25, 2021.
• Its own site says "Since 2013," while BBB shows a January 1, 2004 start and an October 10, 2013 LLC.
• BBB lists Mr. Reem Shai as manager, and neither the site nor BBB names an owner.
• It serves Durham from Raleigh with no local office, per its own service-area pages.
• A BBB category page also shows a Cary address for it, while its own site lists only Raleigh.

The Aluminum Company of North Carolina

Melvin Monsein started this Durham home improvement firm in 1961, and it still runs a showroom on Hamlin Road in north Durham, off Roxboro Road. Garage doors sit beside siding and windows in its lineup: it installs Wayne Dalton doors in vinyl, aluminum, steel and hardwood, and it installs and programs Genie openers. Its garage work is installation and replacement. The site does not advertise spring or opener repair calls, so a snapped spring is a job for another company on this list.

Why we chose them

• BBB lists it as an Accredited Business with an A+ rating at its Hamlin Road address.
• Its About page links to an NC Licensing Board for General Contractors certificate, license no. 54876.
• Per its Durham garage door page, almost all work carries a lifetime labor guarantee on top of the manufacturer warranty.
• Customer testimonials on its own site are dated as recently as September 29, 2026.
• Sami Hanna became president after Jeff Monsein retired in 2018, and the site names no current owner.

American Pro Garage Doors

This regional company runs a Cary office in the Woodwinds Industrial Court flex park off Old Apex Road, with other offices in Charlotte, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Denver. Its own site names Durham, Chapel Hill, Morrisville and Roxboro in its North Carolina service area, which is why a Cary shop is on a Durham list. The site advertises 24-hour emergency service, free service with any opener installation and a "100% Satisfaction" guarantee, though it gives no written warranty terms.

Why we chose them

• It is a multi-state company with offices in North Carolina, Tennessee and Colorado.
• Its own site listed a $99 Ultra Quiet Nylon Rollers + Service special in October 2026.
• The site shows an Amarr "gold partner" badge, which was not checked on Amarr's dealer locator.
• ThreeBestRated dates the company to 2018, but its own site gives no founding year.
• No BBB rating turned up for it, and no enforcement action did either.

Garage Door Professionals

Garage Door Professionals Inc. has worked out of the Woodwinds Industrial Court flex park in Cary, off Old Apex Road, since 2014, per its own site. That site names Durham, Chapel Hill and Hillsborough in a service area of 16 towns, which brings a Cary shop onto a Durham list. It gives free estimates and shows LiftMaster, Safe-way, Amarr, Clopay, Wayne Dalton and CHI logos, though it claims no dealer status. The site posts no prices and promises only "affordable rates."

Why we chose them

• ThreeBestRated also gives 2014 as its opening year, matching the company's own site.
• Its own site lists the Cary address, while BBB's Apex category page shows an address on Chapel View Drive in Apex.
• No BBB profile or rating turned up, and the site states no license number or warranty.
• BBB lists Greenlight Overhead Door, whose apparent NC entity has a New York principal office, in the same building.
• No dated 2026 post from the company itself turned up, so call or use its estimate form first.

Estimates are free on all services, and it says it does same-day service; it publishes no prices or warranty terms.

Why we chose them

• Its own site lists it among the IDA's 2026 Top 100 Door Dealers and 2026 Top 50 Residential Dealers.
• Per its own site, it has been BBB accredited with an A+ since 2023; BBB was not checked.

• It is an authorized Overhead Door dealer, a "Red Ribbon Distributor" per its own site.
• No warranty terms appear on its site.
