Thompson-Lynch Company

About

Thompson-Lynch Company is a lighting shop on Atlantic Avenue in Raleigh, owned by the same family since 1976. The store makes more than 80 percent of what it sells in-house, so the staff can help you find a lamp off the floor or build one to your specifications.

Floor lamps, table lamps, task lamps and chandeliers are all part of the work, and repairs are too. They will also turn a collectible, an heirloom or another sentimental object into a working lamp, which is a nice way to keep something in use.

What to know

  • The business started downtown and moved to Cameron Village in 1978.

  • Cameron Village was finished in 1949 as the first shopping center of its kind in the southeastern United States.
  • The same family has run other businesses there, including a children’s clothing store, a soda shop and a restaurant.
  • When Thompson-Lynch opened, some towns nearby had only had electricity for a few years.
