The Players Retreat

The Players Retreat is a Raleigh bar and restaurant on Oberlin Road, opened by Bernie and Mickey Hanula on February 27, 1951 and moved to its present address in 1961. Locals call it the PR.
It is an official Carolina Hurricanes bar and an NC State institution, and INDY Week readers voted it the Best Sports Bar in Wake County in 2025. The kitchen grinds its Certified Choice beef on site for a roster of named burgers, and the wings come in PR sauce or buffalo. The bar keeps what its own history page describes as the largest single-malt Scotch collection in the state. Children eat free on Sundays.
