State Employees Association of North Carolina

About

The State Employees Association of North Carolina represents 46,000 state employees and retirees from its office on Midtown Place in Raleigh. It pushes for fair pay, better benefits, and retirement security, and it is the leading state employees’ association in the South.

Much of the work happens at the legislature, where SEANC speaks for members who cannot go and argue their own case. The association also follows the issues that reach members directly, including the State Health Plan and the cost of hospital care in North Carolina.

What to know

  • SEANC members pressed Wake County commissioners to slow the proposed WakeMed and Atrium merger.
  • The association has tracked the rewrite of state HR law, the first since the 1960s.
  • BenExtend is a member insurance product, and one member received a check within three weeks of a cancer diagnosis.
  • Some members have belonged to the association for more than 30 years.
  • It publishes regular news updates on decisions affecting state workers.
