St. John’s Metropolitan Community Church
About
St. John’s Metropolitan Community Church sits on North Blount Street in downtown Raleigh and is part of the global movement of Metropolitan Community Churches. It has been a church home for people around Raleigh and the wider Triangle for close to fifty years.
The congregation began in February 1976, when a small group met on the last Sunday of the month to study the Gospel of John. By June of that year the group had voted to affiliate with the MCC denomination, and it has grown from there.
What to know
- Willie White and his partner, Robert Pace, helped keep the first study group meeting.

- That partnership continued until the congregation purchased its first property.
- Free parking is available on Sundays in a nearby municipal deck and in other lots downtown.
- A children’s ministry is part of the congregation’s life.
