South Central Church of Christ
About
South Central Church of Christ is a congregation on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in southeast Raleigh. Sunday brings Bible study and worship, and the worship service is streamed live for anyone who cannot be in the building. There is a Bible study on Wednesdays as well.
The leadership has taken a public position on the role of women in the assembly. After a long study, they concluded that the passage in 1 Timothy about women remaining silent addressed a particular situation in Ephesus and was not a blanket rule.
What to know
- As of 2024, women took part in every function except preaching, communion, and collection.
- From January 2025, women were asked to take part in all worship functions except preaching.
- The leadership says it is not debating or defending the position with other congregations.
- Men who are not leaders also carry out needed tasks under the leadership’s authority.
