About
R&D Brewing is a Raleigh brewery on Capital Boulevard, and the name is the point: the beers come out of research and development. In 2017 the team built a 3.5-barrel pilot system to test recipes and collect feedback from people they knew in the craft beer community.
That experimenting produced a core lineup that includes Riviera, a Mexican-style lager, and Seven Saturdays IPA. Make Everyday Saturday, a modern IPA with grapefruit, mango, and passionfruit notes, is part of the range as well. The brewery opened its own taproom on the site in February 2022.
What to know
- A gold medal for the bock and a bronze for the Mexican lager came at a 2018 national competition.
- Seven Saturdays IPA and Riviera Lager each won silver medals in 2019.
- R&D and NC State Athletics released a co-branded, officially licensed Riviera can.
- That can is sold at NC State athletic events and at local retailers.
- Royalties from the licensed can go back into scholarships at NC State.
