Raleigh Housing Authority

About

The Raleigh Housing Authority has provided safe, quality, affordable housing to low- and moderate-income families in the greater Raleigh community since 1938. It works from Haynes Street and is one of the largest affordable housing providers in Wake County.

Its programs include Housing Choice Vouchers and project-based vouchers, and it is also redeveloping older properties. A strategic plan sets the goal of at least 2,000 more affordable units and new partnerships by 2028. The stated aim is economically mixed communities with strong opportunity for the people who live in them.

What to know

  • The agency began in 1938 by building 464 public housing units.
  • It publishes resident, landlord, and staff survey results from 2023 and 2024.
  • Lea Maye joined in mid-2025 as a Housing Choice Voucher Client Specialist III.
  • Staff invite questions from anyone unsure which program fits their situation.
