North Carolina Voter Project

The North Carolina Voter Project works from Haworth Drive in Raleigh on a single question, which is what actually gets eligible people registered to vote. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and it tests and analyzes registration techniques across the state.

The strategies it uses are backed by research rather than habit, and the aim is to find approaches that work and then scale them up. Its focus falls on the barriers that keep eligible North Carolinians out of elections, and on the ones that can be fixed.

What to know

• One in four eligible voters in North Carolina is not registered.
• The project’s website offers online registration and a registration status check.
• A 2025 impact report sets out where its strategies expanded participation.
• The stated goal is voters who are registered, informed and ready to vote.
• The group looks for approaches to civic participation that can be scaled statewide.
