Meals on Wheels of Wake County
About
Meals on Wheels of Wake County delivers lunchtime meals to more than 1,400 homebound older adults and people with disabilities across the county. It began in February 1974, when ten volunteers met at Hillyer Christian Church and started carrying meals around downtown Raleigh. More than 11 million meals have gone out in Wake County since.
The point of the work is dignity and independence: a meal at the door helps someone stay in their own home rather than leave it. The office is on Blair Drive, and volunteers make the deliveries.
