Krispy Kreme Challenge
About
The Krispy Kreme Challenge gathers at the NC State Memorial Belltower in Raleigh. The math is the whole joke: 2,400 calories, 12 doughnuts, 5 miles, 1 hour. Runners cover the distance and eat a dozen doughnuts in the middle of it.
It began in December 2004 as a dare among a few Park Scholars and their friends, all NC State undergraduates, and students still organize it. The 22nd running, in February 2026, raised more than $160,000, bringing the total raised to more than $2.4 million.
What to know
- Money raised goes to UNC Children’s Hospital.
- That hospital runs the state’s only fully accredited hospital school, from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
- Registration for the 2027 race is open.
- Volunteer registration opens in January 2027.
- A merchandise store opens alongside race registration each year.
