Former Washington High School
About
The former Washington High School was the first public high school for African Americans in Raleigh and the only such school until 1953, graduating many influential members of the city’s African American community; designed by architect C.A. Gadsden Sayre, the 1920s Jacobean-style brick building features stone and glazed terra cotta accents. Details are at raleighhistoric.org.
