Death & Taxes is a contemporary restaurant on W. Hargett Street in downtown Raleigh. Almost everything about the kitchen follows from one decision, which is that the cooking is done over wood fire, and the menu is built around that technique. Live fire is slower and less forgiving than a range, and the kitchen has organized itself around doing it well.
It comes from chef Ashley Christensen and belongs to her group of Raleigh restaurants. The dining room suits a planned evening out more than a quick stop, and tables are usually booked ahead.
