Morrisville Diwali Festival
5-8 p.m. · Morrisville Community Park, 1520 Morrisville Parkway
Morrisville runs its own Diwali celebration in the evening at Morrisville Community Park, free to attend.
An evening slot suits Diwali better than a daytime one. It is the festival of lights, and lights are considerably more effective after dark. A 5 to 8 p.m. window in late October puts most of the event in genuine dusk and darkness.
What to expect:
- Dance and music performance
- Food
- Craft and community stalls
- Activities for children
- Lighting and decoration across the park
This is the smaller and more local of the two big Diwali events in this part of the county. Hum Sub at Koka Booth in Cary two weeks earlier draws tens of thousands; this one is a town park on a Saturday evening. If the scale of the larger event is off-putting, this is the one to choose.
Practical notes:
- Bring a blanket or low chairs
- Late October evenings are cold enough to need a coat
- Parking is at the community park itself
- Three hours is a comfortable length. You will not need to rush.
Free and open to everyone.
If you have never been to a Diwali event, no knowledge is required and nobody will expect any. It is a celebration of light over darkness marked across several faiths, and the public version is food, color, performance and families. Turning up is the whole requirement.
