Usu Company makes hand-poured candles from 100 percent soy, working around Raleigh and Wake County. Each candle carries a custom fragrance blend and a story behind it, which is the whole point of the company instead of an afterthought.
The scents are used to honor individual culture and to make a connection with the person who lights the candle. The founder’s own family history sits behind that idea, going back to her parents’ decision to start over in a new country. Alongside the finished candles, the company teaches people to pour their own.
