Triangle Trails Initiative

About

Triangle Trails Initiative is a Raleigh nonprofit that helps people find greenways across the fifteen counties surrounding the Triangle. The thinking behind it is straightforward: trails connect communities, and people use them more once they know where they are.

Its reach covers counties from Wake and Durham out to Cumberland, Nash and Moore. Giving residents one place to find regional outdoor resources was among the main reasons the group formed. Alongside the mapping work, it encourages people to eat, drink and shop in the towns that host the greenways.

What to know

  • In 2024 it partnered with the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau on the Wander app.
  • That app is a regional GPS map of trails, greenways and tourism destinations.
  • Fifteen signature greenways are highlighted for residents to explore.
  • The American Tobacco Trail is one featured route, running 23 miles through Durham, Chatham and Wake counties.
  • Rashawn King joined the team as program manager in May 2023.
