The Brown House
About
The Brown House is an event space on Hillsborough Street near Saint Mary’s Street, in a home that has stood on the block for more than a century. The rooms have the proportions of an old Raleigh house, which gives a wedding or a party a setting a hotel ballroom cannot copy.
The address puts guests close to NC State and to downtown without sitting in the middle of either, so the block stays quiet and there is still somewhere to go afterward. The house was kept and restored instead of being torn down, and that is much of the appeal.
What to know
- The house was built in 1917 by a man known as Fab Brown.
- The Brown family owned and lived in it until 1975.
- Adams Terry Realty Company bought the house that year and looked after it for decades.
- The realty company sold it in 2021, once the plan to preserve and restore it was settled.
