State Employees’ Credit Union

About

State Employees’ Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative, and this branch is on North Salisbury Street in downtown Raleigh. It is the second largest credit union in the country, with more than 2.8 million members.

SECU offers what you would expect of a full-service institution, from savings accounts to mortgages, guided by a philosophy it sums up as People Helping People. The focus is on giving members the tools and information to make better decisions about their money, and the work extends to the communities where those members live.

What to know

  • SECU was formed in 1937 with just 17 members and $437 in deposits.
  • Members elect the board of directors, and voting is encouraged each year.
  • The SECU Foundation carries much of the credit union’s community work.
  • Membership eligibility rules apply and are published for anyone considering joining.
  • Members can access discounted theme park tickets through Member Access.
