Sorry State Records
About
Sorry State Records is a record store on West Morgan Street in downtown Raleigh, dealing in punk, hardcore, garage, crust, and metal. The stock runs to vinyl and cassettes, including small-label releases you would not find in a general record shop. It is a specialist shop, and it knows exactly what it is.
Orders ship within 24 hours, and a weekly newsletter goes out covering what has come in. The writing is not marketing copy: a recent entry compared one band to both Amebix and Slint, then admitted the comparison did not quite hold.
What to know
- A Record of the Week is picked and written up in each newsletter.
- Pre-orders are taken for upcoming releases, such as the new Kohti Tuhoa album.
- The newsletter also carries tour news from bands the shop follows.
- Releases from labels like La Vida Es Un Mus and General Speech turn up in the racks.
