Raleigh Iron Works
About
Raleigh Iron Works is a mixed-use development on Atlantic Avenue, in what was once the city’s industrial district. It opened to the public in the summer of 2023, and the older buildings were kept instead of cleared away. The idea is to connect Raleigh’s history to its future through curated spaces.
Inside there is a directory of businesses, a community art space, the Forge apartments, and room for events. The property tells its own history through a timeline that runs from William Christmas’s 1792 plan for downtown Raleigh up to the present day.
What to know
- The Market at RIW is one of the recurring events held on the property.
- Ponysaurus Brewing hosts trivia in its space here.
- The Bowtruss Building and the Double Gabe building on site both date to the 1950s.
- An Army-Navy “E” Award is among the milestones marked on the site’s timeline.
