Leon Jordan and the Continentals

About

Leon Jordan’s Continentals is a big band orchestra based in west Raleigh, led by founder and band leader Leon Jordan. The book is built mostly on swing standards, from Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey to Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Count Basie.

Newer material sits alongside the classics, including Michael Bublé and Harry Connick Jr., and Carolina beach music has its own place in the set. The band plays formal events with a full setup, so an evening that calls for an orchestra gets one in full.

What to know

  • Weddings, anniversaries, retirement celebrations, and holiday galas are typical bookings.
  • Beach music selections include the Embers, Chairmen of the Board, the Drifters, and the Beach Boys.
  • The Latin side of the book covers Santana, Tito Puente, Chuck Mangione, Herb Alpert, and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
  • Horn-driven groups such as Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears also turn up in the set lists.
  • Keith Longmire manages the band, and a mailing list carries news of upcoming dates.
