Kadampa Buddhist Center

About

The Kadampa Center on Etta Burke Court in southwest Raleigh is a place to practice Tibetan Buddhism in the Gelugpa tradition. It follows the lineage of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.

The center keeps a teaching schedule and a community calendar, and people who are new to all of it can start with the introductory material on what Buddhism is. Resident sangha members, visiting geshes and lay teachers lead the programs. Venerable Lhundub Tendron, Robbie Watkins and Stephanie Smith are among the teachers listed here.

What to know

  • Teachers connected to the center include Geshe Gelek and Geshe Sangpo.
  • The lineage traces through Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.
  • A bookstore on site sells Buddhist books, and its FAQ explains how pricing works.
  • A photo archive covering 2013 through 2025 is online for viewing and downloading.
  • The community does prayers and mantras for its teachers as a way of honoring them.
