CoLab

CoLab is a community art space on Glenwood Avenue in downtown Raleigh, built on the idea that people make better work together than alone. It welcomes visual artists at every experience level, from someone who has never held a brush to someone who paints for a living.

The motto here is let’s be uncomfortable together, which gives a fair sense of the atmosphere. This is a place to try something you are not yet good at, in company, and the studio is meant to hold that kind of work.

What to know

• The group advocates for visual artists at all levels of experience.
• Creative processes are run to engage several people at a time.
• Working in a group builds trust and speeds up skill development.
• The space is intended as a home base for artists of many mediums.
• Both individual and communal progress are part of what the space aims at.
