Church of the Nativity

About

The Episcopal Church of the Nativity is a parish on Ray Road in North Raleigh, in a wooded setting the congregation calls a sanctuary in the trees. The welcome is deliberately wide: the church says everyone belongs, whoever they are, wherever they came from and whoever they love.

Music carries real weight in worship here. The pipe organ has led the singing since it arrived, and the congregation spent a decade finishing the instrument. Services are held on Sunday mornings, and the parish calendar fills out with trips, meetings and other gatherings through the year.

What to know

  • The organ was installed in 2007 with twelve stops and chests prepared for eight more.
  • Money to complete it was raised by the congregation during 2014 and 2015.
  • A contract to finish the instrument was signed in December 2015.
  • The last eight stops went in during the middle of 2017.
  • An adult pilgrimage to Charleston is planned, with signups opening for 2027.
