Black Box Dance Theatre

Black Box Dance Theatre is a North Carolina dance company based in Raleigh, working at the point where art, community and civic engagement meet. Performances are the most public part of what it does, and they are built and rehearsed to a high standard.

The mission goes past the stage. The company also works to keep arts education within reach for people across North Carolina. Performances and its programs both fall under that same idea, and that combination is what the company means by civic engagement.

What to know

• The company runs a Winter Intensive, and participants describe the energy there as pure joy.
• One dancer called it a true community full of welcome, acceptance and love.
• Audience members have written about recalling particular dances daily after a concert.
