African American Cultural Celebration

About

The African American Cultural Celebration is an annual festival put on by the North Carolina Museum of History, at the museum on East Edenton Street in downtown Raleigh. It marks African American history, arts and culture, and it is one of several festivals the museum runs.

The celebration comes in two parts, a virtual education day and an in-person event at the museum. The museum itself connects people across the state with the past, and it cares for more than 150,000 artifacts that help tell those stories.

What to know

  • The museum describes its role as caring for the state’s history.
  • Its work reaches from the coast to the Blue Ridge Mountains.
  • Longleaf pine forests are part of the territory it covers.
  • Staff hold that everyone contributes to the story of North Carolina.
