The V Foundation for Cancer Research has its headquarters on Weston Parkway in Cary, and it funds cancer research. Grants go to both adult and pediatric cancer research, and the foundation describes what it funds as game-changing work by all-star scientists.
It was founded in 1993 by ESPN and Jim Valvano, the basketball coach and broadcaster who had been diagnosed with cancer. On March 4 of that year, he accepted the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the first ESPYS, and the foundation has carried his goal of victory over cancer since.
