Dram & Draught

Dram & Draught is a whiskey bar at Fenton in Cary, one of seven the group runs around North Carolina. The list runs to roughly 300 bottles, though the owners would rather describe the place as a good neighborhood bar that happens to pour a lot of whiskey.

Cocktails are mixed for balance instead of showmanship, and the rooms are built for staying a while. The group takes private event bookings, and flight nights give people a way to taste across the shelf without committing to a full pour.

What to know

• Kevin Barrett and Drew Schenck took over the original Raleigh bar in 2016.
• That first location opened inside a 1930s filling station.
• The Raleigh building kept its exposed brick, its old Esso sign and roll-up garage doors onto the patio.
• Bench seats there were built out of junkyard cars, with whiskey barrels used as stools.
• The group has grown from that one room into bars in several North Carolina towns.
