Cary Community Choir

About

The Cary Community Choir is an all-volunteer group that comes together once a year for one of the town’s older traditions, a performance of selections from Handel’s Messiah.

The choir traces back to Cary’s Centennial Celebration in 1971, when townspeople were encouraged to dress in centennial costumes. It was put together as a joint effort by the ministers of music at the four main churches in Cary at the time, and it has kept gathering every year since in the same spirit of celebration and ecumenicalism.

What to know

  • Singers should be at least sixteen years old to take part.
  • Younger prospects are asked to have a year of choral experience at the high school level.
  • The choir celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in 2021.
  • The group is assembled fresh each year instead of rehearsing all year round.
