Wendell Museum

About

The Wendell Museum is the work of the Wendell Historical Society, and volunteers keep it running. It fills the old Alex Wall house on West Second Street, a private home until 2019, when the Town of Wendell bought the property so the society would have somewhere to put its collection.

Inside are educational displays, a Wendell timeline, and a library of documents and photographs covering the town’s past. The society behind it is a group of local citizens set on preserving what is left of Wendell’s history.

What to know

  • Alex Wall was the town nightwatchman in the early 1930s and became chief of police two years later.
  • Wall stayed on the job until he retired in 1961 at the age of 81.
  • The bricks in the house were salvaged from the Rigsbee Hotel when it came down in the 1960s.
  • A reverse raffle fundraiser began in 2016 and has been held every year since.
  • Christmas tours started in 2002 and have run regularly since 2008.
