The K9 Comeback Project
About
The K9 Comeback Project is a Wendell nonprofit that takes dogs nobody else picked and trains them into service dogs. It began with Kobe, who sat in a shelter for close to ten months because of his size and breed, until founder Kristin Maher adopted him.
The group works with rescues, shelters and professional training facilities to find dogs with the right temperament. The finished dogs go to people living with physical or psychiatric conditions, and much of the effort goes into lowering the cost that keeps families from having one.
What to know
- Dog evaluations are held several times each month.
- An enrollment form starts the process for anyone interested.
- The stated mission is restoring independence and confidence.
- Donations pay for the training and are taken on the website.
