Mitchell Mill State Natural Area
About
Mitchell Mill State Natural Area is a 105-acre preserve run by North Carolina State Parks in unincorporated eastern Wake County, east of Rolesville. It follows the Little River in Little River Township, and visitors reach it from NC 96.
The draw is the open granite flatrock, part of the Rolesville Batholith, and the rare plants that grow on it. Trail access leads walkers across the rock outcrops and along the Little River. It is a primitive natural area meant for quiet nature walks, so come prepared.
What to know

- Parking is a small dirt lot at Mitchell Mill Road and Pulleytown Road.
- There are no restrooms, so plan ahead before the drive out.
- Sturdy shoes are recommended for walking on the granite outcrops.
- The Town of Rolesville lists it about 5 miles, or 8 minutes, from its town center.
