Franklinton Depot

About

Franklinton Depot is the town’s 1886 railroad depot, standing on East Mason Street in downtown Franklinton. The wooden building is one of the clearest reminders of how the town grew up around the rail line that gave it its first name.

Today it is the clubhouse of the Franklinton Woman’s Club, so the inside is private and the depot is best seen from the sidewalk. It makes a good first stop on a walk around downtown, with the shops and restaurants of Main Street a few minutes away on foot.

What to know

  • The building has been on the National Register of Historic Places since December 27, 1990.
  • The Woman’s Club acquired the depot and moved it to this site in 1973.
  • Franklinton itself began in 1839 under the name Franklin Depot.
  • Look for its German drop siding.
  • Texaco Station Park, a pocket park with an old Texaco sign post, is a short walk away.
